Here listed below are just a few examples where future employers could have faced potential disaster because pre employment screening was inadequate. Also included are cases where companies have foregone screening and have paid for it dearly as you will see.

He was known to be seriously in debt many years before he faced the ignominy of being arrested in the Headmaster's study. County Court Judgments over several years mounted up to more than £30000.

TC, 44 years Bursar at the Royal Academy of Arts stole almost £400,000 from the institution to win back the affection of his wife after he had been unfaithful. He also stole £29000 from the restoration fund of his village church for which he acted as Treasurer and he pocketed Sunday collections. Fearing adverse publicity officials had allowed him to repay a debt/theft of £45000, but he soon broke undertakings about that and a subsequent police investigation uncovered more of the extent of his dishonesty, resulting in his prosecution.

Two weeks after her release from prison, she was committing another fraud planned while in prison. She obtained credit cards and bank accounts using false identification. She opened bank accounts with her boy friend using other people's names and using duplicated driving licences. They obtained £40000 worth of money and property. She was sent to prison for a further year.

He had just attended his graduation ceremony at the University of Leicester where he had obtained an MA in criminology. He had obtained his BA in psychology also while in prison. He blamed the authorities for failing to rehabilitate him.

RG, 36, University Lecturer who had lied about his criminal past was acquitted in October 2001 of raping one of his students. He kept a log book of his sexual conquests noting 90 women to whom he gave marks out of ten for performance. He had been fined £260 in 1997, after admitting 4 offences of sending indecent photographs (of a woman who had dumped him) with the purpose of causing anxiety or distress. In April 1996 he had been given a 2 year suspended sentence for making threats to kill, criminal damage and sending obscene publications through the post. He was also fined for sending indecent material in September 1996. He had been a Lecturer at Derby University in 1998, University of Hull & Lincolnshire in 1999, but his application to Edge Hill University in Liverpool in 2000 failed when they were tipped off. The victim of his latest offence is to sue the University for their negligence in appointing a man who was totally unacceptable for the post.

Dr E-A, 58 allegedly qualified as a doctor in the Ukraine. He came to Britain in 1973 and by 2000 he had had 42 jobs as an anaesthetist, despite repeatedly failing medical exams! He was dismissed from Falkirk Royal Infirmary in 1993 for temporarily paralysing a woman by giving the wrong drug. He administered a general anaesthetic to a 10 year old boy who died after having a heart attack in the dentist's chair. He failed to anaesthetise a woman undergoing a Caesarian section. He dropped a breathing tube on the floor, picked it up and licked it clean then inserted in the woman's mouth, despite being offered a sterile tube by a nurse.

He assaulted another woman and was later convicted, he got three years probation this time, but again no further action by the GMC. The Health Authority will now be sued. Dr.S, will go somewhere else.
